Terms & Conditions

Last Updated: May 2026 • USMMA KP Alumni - Chesapeake Chapter

These Terms and Conditions govern membership and participation in the USMMA KP Alumni - Chesapeake Chapter ("Chapter"), an official alumni association chapter of the USMMA Alumni Association. By applying for membership or participating in Chapter activities, you agree to these terms.

1. Membership Eligibility

Regular membership is open to all graduates of the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Associate membership is available to non-graduate supporters of the Chapter's mission and USMMA. All members must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the honor and traditions of Kings Point.

2. Membership Application & Approval

Applicants must submit a completed membership application with required documentation (USMMA diploma or transcript for regular members). The Membership Committee reviews all applications. Membership approval requires majority vote of the Committee. The Chapter reserves the right to deny or revoke membership for conduct detrimental to the Chapter or Academy.

3. Dues & Fees

Regular and student members pay no dues. Associate members pay annual dues of $50. Life membership is available for a one-time contribution of $1,000. Chapter-specific fees may apply for special events, reunions, or programs. Dues are non-refundable and support chapter operations, scholarships, and events.

4. Event Participation

Chapter events are open to members in good standing and their guests. Some events may have additional registration fees. All participants must abide by event rules, venue policies, and conduct themselves appropriately. The Chapter reserves the right to remove disruptive individuals from events.

5. Code of Conduct

Members are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct reflecting positively on USMMA and the Chapter. This includes respectful interaction with fellow alumni, compliance with all applicable laws, and adherence to maritime traditions. Harassment, discrimination, or unethical behavior will not be tolerated and may result in membership termination.

6. Use of USMMA Name & Insignia

Members may use the USMMA name and KP designation in connection with Chapter activities. Commercial use or unauthorized representation as an official Academy entity is prohibited. Use of USMMA seals and logos requires written permission from the Academy or Alumni Association.

7. Volunteer Participation

Chapter operations rely on volunteer members. Service on committees, event planning, and leadership positions are voluntary roles. Members are encouraged but not required to participate in chapter programs and activities.

8. Communications & Privacy

The Chapter maintains member contact information for alumni relations and event communications. Your information is not sold or shared with third parties except as necessary for chapter operations (e.g., event registration, newsletters). You may opt out of non-essential communications. See our Privacy Policy for details.

9. Publications & Media

Photographs and videos taken at Chapter events may be used in newsletters, websites, and promotional materials. By attending events, you consent to the use of your likeness for non-commercial Chapter purposes. Members may opt out by providing written notice.

10. Limitation of Liability

The Chapter is not liable for personal injury, property damage, or loss of belongings during Chapter events. Members participate at their own risk. The Chapter carries general liability insurance for organized events, but individual participants are responsible for their own health and safety.

11. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from Chapter membership or activities shall first be addressed through internal resolution with the Chapter Executive Board. If unresolved, disputes may be referred to the USMMA Alumni Association Board of Governors for final determination.

12. Amendments

These Terms may be amended by the Chapter Executive Board with 30 days notice to members via email or newsletter. Continued membership after amendment constitutes acceptance of revised Terms.

13. Chapter Authority

The USMMA KP Alumni - Chesapeake Chapter operates under the authority of the USMMA Alumni Association and in accordance with the Association's bylaws. In case of conflict, USMMA Alumni Association bylaws and policies shall govern.
